We all want to keep ourselves and our families safe, but depending on the country you live in there are limitations on what you are allowed to carry on the street to do so. There is also the danger that these weapons could easily be used against you if you don’t know what you are doing. A gun or knife can very easily be taken from you and put you in a more dangerous position than you were before. For this reason, we’ve come up with a few Self-Defense tools that you could happily hand your spouse, son or daughter, without the worry that it will end up causing them more harm.
- “Bring on the Noise”
If you happen to be attacked in a semi-secluded place, nothing can be more effective than making a lot of noise and drawing attention to yourself to scare off your attacker. Sure, a scream can do the trick, but what has proven to be even more effective is an alarm or a whistle. Something that is more piercing and will travel a lot further. There are downsides to both whistles and alarms. Alarms require batteries and can sometimes maybe not perform when you need them most, while a whistle is a lot less subtle to use and can be stopped easily by your attacker. We’ve found a tool that we really like. It’s a combination of both. The Vigilant has got a really really loud alarm which is very unlikely to fail due to its 365-day standby batteries. But in the event that it does, it is also an equally loud whistle. The best thing about this is that you can give it to someone of any age.
- The Date Rape Drug Prevention.
It can happen so easily. You’ve had a few drinks, you probably aren’t as focused as you were at the beginning of the night when you would ask your friends to watch your drink. You leave it unattended for only a minute and someone who’s been watching you from across the bar all night takes fast advantage of the opportunity. Due to the ever-increasing price of drinks, it is unlikely that someone will dump a drink “just in case” if they forgot to keep an eye on it. An easy solution has been created with this Drink Test Kit. You place a drop of the drink on the card to detect if it has been tampered with. Yet again another tool that has no legal implications in any country and can be used by a person of any age.
- If they can’t SEE they can’t HURT
This next one is a tricky one since you will need to check your local authorities to see if it is legal to carry around. But it is effective and can be used at a distance. Pepper sprays come in all shapes and sizes. Some are good and some are likely to just not work when needed or can only be used once, so if you miss the target, you’ll just make them more aggressive. Our favorite is the Sabre Spray. It is small, has up to 35 bursts (almost 5 times it’s nearest competitor. Is really easy to trigger and is designed in a way to improve accuracy of aim.
Have you come across any tools that you have maybe given to your son or daughter to protect themselves and would like to share with the Martial Tribes community?
