Iko Uwais is back and will be the sole reason that we will be queueing up for tickets to see Mile 22.
Since we are all huge fans of Iko and the Raid movies, it is nice to see he is starting to get the global recognition he deserves. His co-stars gush that he could be the new Jackie Chan, due to his mix of talent and charisma, so it’s only a matter of time before Iko becomes a household name. Mile 22, which also stars Ronda Rousey, is a huge stepping stone to get him in that direction.
He plays Li Noor, a CIA informant who claims to have intel ona radioactive nuclear bioweapon that is said to have an impact as big as Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. Uwais choreographed the above fight scene himself and it is one of the most action-packed 42 seconds and one of the best displays of Silat that you are likely to come across in film this year.
The release of this film is bound to give Uwais a brand new audience who will be lucky enough to discover the Raid movies for the first time. Mile 22’s reception so far has been fairly positive, with most crediting Uwais for the films watchability. This is great news for the actor, who has hopefully proved to Hollywoods studios that he has the chops to be top billing in his next outing. Watch this space!
